12kg gold seized at Dhaka airport
Customs officials recovered approximately 12 kilogrammes of gold bars, worth Tk six crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today.
A preventive team of Dhaka customs house seized 100 pieces of gold bars, weighing 11.89kg, from a flight of Regent Airways, which flew in from Bangkok through Chittagong, said Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, assistant commissioner of customs.
Two people were arrested in this connection but their identities are yet to be verified, he added.
The detainees were identified as domestic passenger Mohammad Abdur Rahim and international passenger Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, he said.
“We suspect that the crew and staff of the airways may be involved with the smuggling of the gold,” Shahiduzzaman said.
