1 more Chawkbazar fire victim dies, death toll now 69
Another victim of Chawkbazar fire died early today taking the death toll to 69.
Shohag, 22, breathed his last at Dhaka Medical College Hospital's burn unit around 2:00am, Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the hospital’s police outpost, told The Daily Star.
He suffered 60 per cent burn injuries, Dr Partha Sankar Paul, resident surgeon of the hospital, told The Daily Star; confirming the death.
Shohag was working with two other workers at the first floor of Wahed Mansion in Churihatta of Dhaka's Chawkbazar when the devastating fire started, according to locals.
Earlier yesterday, another Chawkbazar fire victim Anwar Hossain, 45, died while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital's burn unit.
WHAT HAPPENED IN CHAWKBAZAR?
The fire began after a big blast in Chawkbazar, a hub in Old Dhaka, around 10:40pm on February 20.
According to what can be ascertained, the fire sparked out from a chemical warehouse on the ground floor of the five-storied building named Hazi Wahed Mansion.
The flames quickly spread to three other buildings nearby, including a community centre and killed 67 people on the spot.
