LMW Global FZE, UAE celebrates “A. Matin Chowdhury” award at AUST
The prestigious "A. Matin Chowdhury" award ceremony held at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) on Dec 9 brought together leaders from the textile industry, academia, and students to celebrate the event and to discuss the future of textiles.
The ceremony opened with a keynote address by Ramanadane C, CEO of LMW Global FZE, Dubai, UAE. He explained the journey of LMW in the Bangladesh market and the contribution of Matin Chowdhury in putting LMW products and technology in leadership positions. He also emphasised the company's commitment to continue to play a stronger role through high technology products and after sales services.
Prof. Dr Md Ashraful Hoque, Vice Chancellor, AUST; Prof. Dr Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, Pro Vice Chancellor, AUST; Prof. Dr Sharmin Reza Chowdhury, Treasurer, AUST; and Engr Emdadul Haque, Head, Textile Engineering Dept, AUST, thanked LMW Global FZE for sponsoring such an award to encourage students and strengthen the bond between academia and industry.
LMW Global FZE is a leading textile spinning machinery manufacturer. The organisation sponsored the award under the name of Abdul Matin Chowdhury, thus honouring him for the dedication and remarkable role he played for the growth of the textile industry in the country.
Matin Chowdhury, in his speech to the student community and industry leaders, recalled the growth journey of textiles in the country. He said, "The future of textiles lies in man-made fibres and hence, to remain competitive and environmentally responsible, we must embrace this shift."
Shawkat Aziz Russel, President, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), shared updates on innovative projects, including the establishment of a second plant for producing synthetic fibres from PET bottles. He pointed out the pressing need for skilled manpower in the field, recommending that AUST establish a dedicated department for man-made fibres to train future experts. He also revealed plans to secure research funding to advance synthetic fibre technology.
The event concluded by honouring Md Raihanul Islam and Maliha Akter Mitu, final-year students from the Yarn Engineering Stream, with the award for their exceptional academic achievements.
