Bangladesh wins six gold medals at World Mathematics Team Championship 2024

Participating in the World Mathematics Team Championship 2024, Team Bangladesh has achieved six gold medals, 11 silver medals, and seven bronze medals alongside three merit awards. Each representative of the 27-member team received an award. This prestigious international maths competition, sponsored by the Qatar Foundation, took place in Doha, Qatar from November 28 to December 1. 

For the junior level of the World Mathematics Team Championship 2024 (WMTC), the team selected was "The Bengal Hexagon". "The Royal Six of Bengal", "The Delta Six", and "The Bengal Hexa" were selected to compete in the intermediate level. "The Bengal Trinomial" – the team selected to compete for the advanced level – ranked in the top 30 percent of their category. 

Ahon Barik from the junior level and Tahmid Al Asad, Mobasshir Ariq, Projesh Bhowmik, Saqeef Mihran Sabir, and Nawshan Haque Mahir from the intermediate level won gold medals. In addition, the 11 winners of the silver medals include Arman Malik, Fatimah Zahra Sheikh, and Jannatul Ferdous Nawsin from the junior level; Laaibah Sarrinah Islam, Uchhaiwang Marma, Md Tahsin Islam, Md Saraf Nuhil Islam, and Rafid Un Noby from the intermediate level; and Mohammad Marzuq Rahman and  Saad Bin Ahmed from the advanced level.  

Sheikh Alimul Hakim was the only bronze medalist from Bangladesh in the junior level. Mohammad Saifan Haider, Sakin Al Sadaf, Shuvro Anindya Bapari, and Mohammad Ibtesam Islam from the intermediate level, and Intesar Alam Manam from the advanced level also won bronze medals in their respective categories. 

The organisers reported that to select members to compete in the WMTC for the Bangladesh Maths Team, a Banglar Math Team Championship (BMTC) 2024 was organised where more than 2000 students from across the country registered. An online selection round was held for the registered student. The national round of BMTC 2024 was held in Dhaka's Southeast University (SEU) with those selected from the online round. Nearly 450 students from different institutions in the country participated. Approximately 101 students in the junior, intermediate, and advanced levels emerged victorious. In the team rounds, five teams in the junior level, 10 teams in the intermediate level, and three teams in the advanced level won. 

The winners sat for a national-round test and later a selection test, through which six members for a team at the junior level, 18 members for three teams at the intermediate level, and a three-member team at the advanced level were selected for the WMTC 2024. Biman Bangladesh Airlines was the travel sponsor for the Bangladesh team.
