Khulna University punishes 19 students for misconduct, ragging, other offences

Khulna University (KU) handed punishment to a total of 19 students for their alleged involvement in ragging, physical assault, blasphemy, and drug-related offences.
The decisions were made at the university's 27th disciplinary board meeting held on October 9, according to the office of students' affairs director.
A circular from the university said the punishments were determined based on the severity of each offence, ranging from expulsion and suspension to monetary fines and written undertakings.
Md Mobarak Hossain Noman of the Bangla discipline was expelled and he was banned from entering the campus for life for allegedly assaulting a teacher.
For involvement in drug use, purchase, and sale, Hasan Hawlader of Economics and Aminul Islam of Mass Communication and Journalism were expelled. In a separate case of physical violence, Md Zahidul Islam, a student of Law, was also expelled. Two other law students -- Meheraf Hossain Rabbi and Aminul Ehsan -- were warned and required to submit written undertakings with their guardians, pledging not to engage in misconduct again.
For ragging, KM Rauful Alam Ornob of Mathematics was suspended for six months, while Md Rimon Mia, Ahsan Habib, and Md Salman Hossain were fined Tk 5,000 each and ordered to submit undertakings with their guardians.
Md Umar Faruk and Sadman Ud Doula of the Education discipline were suspended for the current term for fighting on campus, while Moniruzzaman Riad of Business Administration and Ziad Al Sams of Education were fined Tk 5,000 each and made to submit undertakings.
For using abusive language at teachers and issuing death threats to them, three Mathematics students -- Babul Akter Durjoy, Rashed Khan Menon, and Bandhan Roy -- were suspended for six months.
Besides, Md Russell Sheikh, a student of Mass Communication and Journalism, was expelled for posting blasphemous remarks on social media. Another student, Tonoy Roy, was suspended for two years for similar behaviour.
