Two banners of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were allegedly displayed on the Chittagong University (CU) campus early today, sparking outrage among students across the campus.

However, a proctorial team went to the spot this morning but did not find any banners there.

Many have blamed the university administration for the incident, alleging that its inaction has encouraged the banned group to reappear on the campus.

Students said photos of the banners quickly spread across social media. One was hung near the north side of the university railway station, while the other appeared at the main gate of Alaol Hall.

Images of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel were apparently featured on the banners.

Talking to reporters, Cucsu General Secretary Saeed Bin Habib said, "The banned Chhatra League put up the banners last night at the Alaol Hall gate. The university administration has failed to take action against BCL affiliates, identified criminals, and those who opposed the July movement. Many BCL members still roam the campus freely under the protection of influential figures. Such incidents continue because there has been no justice."

He demanded that the entire campus be brought under CCTV surveillance and that those responsible be held accountable.

Contacted, CU Assistant Proctor Prof Dr Korban Ali said, "After seeing the photos on social media, our proctorial team went to the spot around 8:00 am but did not find any banners there. We suspect they were hung at dawn and later removed. Someone may have taken photos and posted them online, or perhaps old pictures are being circulated to create confusion."
