Shah Cement hosts architecture seminar featuring AIA Gold Medalist Marlon Blackwell
Shah Cement organised a seminar titled "Architecture: Connecting Global Modernity with Local Identity", bringing together architects, engineers, academics, students and design professionals to discuss the relationship between global architectural innovation and local identity.
The seminar, held in association with NEXT50 at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden, featured a keynote presentation by Marlon Blackwell, recipient of the 2020 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Gold Medal, according to a press release.
During his presentation, Blackwell discussed the importance of designing buildings that respond to local climate, materials, communities and cultural identity while incorporating contemporary architectural approaches.
The event also featured a panel discussion with architects from the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB), academia and professional practice. The discussion explored how architecture can address contemporary challenges while preserving cultural identity and creating sustainable spaces.
According to the organisers, the seminar was organised to encourage dialogue between international and local professionals and promote knowledge sharing within Bangladesh's architecture and construction sectors.
Representatives of Shah Cement said the company remains committed to supporting initiatives that foster innovation, professional development and collaboration among architects, engineers and design professionals.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and a networking session.
