National Language Fest draws students from 25 universities to BAU
The Bangladesh Agricultural University Language Club (BAULC) hosted the third National Language Fest at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), bringing together more than 350 students from 25 universities across the country for a two-day celebration of language, literature, and communication.
The festival aimed to take language beyond classrooms and textbooks and present it as a living practice shaped by culture, creativity, and shared experiences.
The first day featured ten competitive segments conducted in six languages—Bangla, English, Arabic, Japanese, German, and Spanish. Events such as Sahitto Utshab, Fiction Fusion, and Connecting the Dots encouraged participants to engage with both classical literature and contemporary popular culture, including films, television series, anime, and puzzle-based storytelling.
A new segment, Anime Tales, was introduced for the first time this year. With anime gaining popularity among Bangladeshi youth, the segment received strong participation and reflected the growing influence of global storytelling on language use and imagination. Visual expression was highlighted through the Wall Magazine segment, where participants combined words and illustrations to convey ideas and emotions.
In the afternoon, an art, literature, and culture fair titled Bornokunjo was inaugurated by writer Sadat Hossain. The fair featured bookstalls, food and jewellery outlets, and creative stalls run by young entrepreneurs, including international students from Malaysia. In the evening, Bornokunjo turned into a cultural night with music, dance, mime, and folk performances. This marked the first time BAULC organised a cultural fair on such a scale.
The second day focused on communication skills and personal development. Sadat Hossain spoke on Bangla literature and creative writing. Television host and mime artist Moushumi Mou discussed confidence and non-verbal expression. Public speaking coach Shahnawaz Hossain spoke on effective English communication, while Hasibur Rahman of British American Tobacco shared insights on corporate life and leadership.
The festival concluded with the finals of the competitive segments and a prize-giving ceremony. A total of 25 winners received awards from a prize pool of BDT 40,000.
The event concluded with BAULC reaffirming its commitment to promoting linguistic awareness, creativity, and meaningful communication among students.
