6th death anniversary of Imamul Kabir Shanto observed
The sixth death anniversary of Bir Muktijoddha Md Imamul Kabir Shanto, founder chairman of Shanto-Mariam Foundation, Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology and Sundarban Courier Service Pvt Ltd, was observed on Saturday.
Imamul Kabir Shanto died on May 30, 2020, at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka after contracting Covid-19. He was buried with state honours at Banani Graveyard later that day. He was 66.
Born on February 11, 1954, in Nakhalpara, Dhaka, he took part in Bangladesh's Liberation War at the age of 17.
According to the organisers, he later established a number of educational, business and social welfare institutions, including Shanto-Mariam Foundation, Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology, Sundarban Courier Service Pvt Ltd, the daily Ajker Prottasha, Shanto-Mariam Academy of Creative Technology, Shanto-Mariam Institute of Creative Technology, Shanto-Mariam School of Creative Technology and Shantonibas.
Programmes marking the anniversary were organised under the initiative of Md Ahsanul Kabir, chairman of Shanto-Mariam Foundation and Sundarban Courier Service Pvt Ltd and a member of the Board of Trustees of Shanto-Mariam University, and artist Mostafizul Haque, chairman of the university's Board of Trustees.
The observance included the placing of floral wreaths at his grave, completion of Quran recitation, special prayers and other commemorative activities.
