TNZ Garment workers confine labour secretary over unpaid wages

Workers of TNZ Garment factory today confined Labour and Employment Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman at Sromo Bhaban, protesting the factory management's failure to pay their salaries and Eid bonuses.
Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Ismail, president of the Bangladesh Textile-Garments Sramik Federation, who was present at the demonstration, said more than 1,000 workers blocked the ways of the labour secretary at Sromo Bhaban (headquarters of the Department of Labour) for an hour, beginning from around 5pm.

Earlier in the day, Shafiquzzaman held a meeting at the Sromo Bhaban with union leaders, TNZ management, and workers to discuss the payment of salaries and bonuses ahead of Eid.

For nearly a week, workers of TNZ Group have been demonstrating in front of the Shromo Bhaban demanding three months' unpaid wages and Eid bonuses.
Yesterday, workers staged hunger procession.
Before the march, they held a press conference in front of Shromo Bhaban, revealing they were owed Tk 17.78 crore in unpaid wages, bonuses, and allowances. Only Tk 1.05 crore had been paid on March 27.
