Swedish government's private arm Swisscontact and the Swedish embassy in Dhaka today signed a memorandum of understanding with local Team Group to groom the skilled young workers in the making of high-end value-added garment items.

The Sweden government signed the agreement to commemorate the International Youth Day and the theme of this year's International Youth Day is Green Skilling for Youth in the Garment Sector.

Currently, Swisscontact, in partnership with the Embassy of Sweden, is actively implementing the Promoting Green Growth in Ready-Made Garments Through Skills (Progress) project that began in October of 2022.

The Swisscontact (Progress) will facilitate the 4A Dyeing Ltd, the Team Group's platinum rated green garment factory at Savar in Dhaka, for grooming its workers for manufacturing the garment items maintaining green compliances.

The aim of this MoU is to focus on skills enhancement and productivity growth, with a particular emphasis on uplifting women within the readymade garments sector, the 4A Dyeing Ltd said in a statement.

Maria Stridsman, deputy head of mission at the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka; Ikarmul Sohel, national programme officer at the Embassy of Sweden; Mujibul Hasan Cezanne, country director of Swisscontact; Syeda Ishrat Fatema, team leader at Swisscontact for the Progress project; Abdullah Hil Nakib, deputy managing director of Team Group, and Md Zahedul Hoque, executive director of 4A Yarn Dyeing Ltd, were present at the MoU signing ceremony.
