gold price hike

The Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (Bajus) raised gold prices again today—just a day after the last hike—when global rates hit a new record, surpassing $4,000 an ounce (28.35 grams).

Locally, gold will be sold at Tk 209,100 per bhori (11.664 grams) from tomorrow, a new record for the Bangladesh market, up 3.41 percent from today's Tk 202,195 per bhori, said Bajus in a press release.

The announcement by the jewellers came hours after gold prices hit a new record, driven by investors seeking safety from mounting economic and geopolitical uncertainty, alongside expectations of further interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve.

Spot gold was up 0.9 percent at $4,017.16 per ounce. US gold futures for December delivery gained 0.9 percent to $4,040 per ounce, reports Reuters.

Traditionally, gold is seen as a store of value during times of instability.

As one of the best-performing assets of 2025, spot gold is up 53 percent year-to-date after rising 27 percent in 2024, it added.

In Bangladesh, the price of 22-carat gold rose by more than Tk 16,000 per bhori in September alone. In the first 10 days of October, its price increased by Tk 11,523 per bhori.
