Faruq Mayeenuddin, new vice-chairperson of Brac Bank
Faruq Mayeenuddin, an independent director of Brac Bank Limited, has been elected as the vice-chairperson of the bank.
Mayeenuddin has been serving the bank as the chairman of the board executive committee, Brac Bank said in a press release.
He was appointed as an independent director to the board in December 2021.
He is a career banker with over 37 years of experience holding key management positions in different leading private commercial banks of the country.
Mayeenuddin started his professional career with AB Bank Limited as a probationary officer in 1984.
He previously worked for Trust Bank Limited as managing director and CEO, City Bank Limited as an additional managing director, Mercantile Bank Limited and AB Bank Limited as a deputy managing director.
In his career, he held the position of country manager at AB Bank Mumbai office for five years facilitating correspondent and reimbursement banking services to different Bangladeshi banks.
Mayeenuddin is the founder chairman of the Association of Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officers of Banks in Bangladesh, a life member of the Bangladesh Economic Association, and is serving as an adjunct faculty of East West University.
He received Bangladesh Bank Gold Medal and BCCI Gold Medal in the banking diploma examination for securing the first position in 1987.
He also received Bangla Academy Award 2019 in travel writing category for his contribution to Bangla literature and won IFIC Bank Literary Award in 2011 for excellence in translation and Citi-Ananda Alo Award 2019 for travelogue.
Mayeenuddin obtained his master's degree in economics from the University of Dhaka.
