External debt servicing rises 13.22% in Jul-Aug

$488.79 million in principal and $178.32 million in interest were repaid in the first two months of FY26

Bangladesh's external debt servicing surged by 13.22 percent year-on-year to $667.11 million in the first two months of the current fiscal year, according to data from the Economic Relations Division released today.

Of the amount, the government repaid $488.79 million in principal and $178.32 million in interest, compared to $415.62 million in principal and $173.60 million in interest during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Meanwhile, development partners disbursed $750 million in the July-August period of this fiscal year, up from $458.24 million in the same period of the previous year.

During this period, the government received commitments of around $244 million, compared to $20 million during the same period last fiscal year.
