Dual currency Taka-Rupee card from September
Bangladesh Bank is going to introduce dual currency Taka-Rupee card in September this year to allow travellers to make payments at home as well as in India, Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder said today.
"We are in the process of launching our national card," he said at the launch of settlement of Bangladesh-India bilateral trade in Indian Rupee (INR) at Le Meridien Dhaka.
Under the current practices, travellers have to buy US dollars before travelling to India and convert them into the rupee when they are in the neighbouring country.
Use of the card will allow travellers to reduce exchange rate losses twice.
