Dhaka Customs House to remain open 24/7 over the next two days

The Dhaka Customs House has decided to remain open round-the-clock over the next two days — Friday and Saturday — in an effort to keep trade and import-export activities running following the devastating fire at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport's cargo village.
An office order issued today directed all officials to remain at their workplaces as customs operations will continue without interruption to clear pending consignments and facilitate the recovery of affected businesses.
Earlier on Tuesday, the customs house issued three separate orders introducing 24-hour shifts, distributing duties among deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, and revenue officers under the supervision of joint commissioners.
According to the latest directive, both the Airfreight and Express Service units of the customs house will operate in three shifts during the weekend.
A sufficient number of revenue officers, assistant revenue officers, sub-inspectors, and sepoys have been assigned to ensure smooth customs clearance.
The move follows mounting pressure from exporters and importers who have suffered heavy losses in Saturday's fire, which gutted a large portion of the airport's cargo complex.
