Govt must extend every possible support to private sector: Mahfuz Anam

The private sector is the backbone of Bangladesh's economic future, and it is to them that the government must extend every possible support -- in policy, in finance, and in recognition, said Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star.

"So where do we go from here? We must forge a new partnership -- one that has eluded us for the last 53 years: a true, strategic, and respectful partnership between the government and the private sector."

"No one else will create jobs. No one else will attract FDI. No one else will drive innovation. If we are to thrive in a world of competition, efficiency, and technological transformation, this partnership is not optional -- it is essential," Anam said.

He made the comments at the 23rd Bangladesh Business Awards, jointly organised by DHL and The Daily Star, at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka.
