‘Sri Lanka tour proves we are improving in Tests’
According to Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim, the Sri Lanka tour was testament to the fact that Tigers are making real progress in the longest format of the game.
Mushfiqur Rahim was speaking to the media when members of the Bangladesh team arrived home from Sri Lanka after a month-long series today. “Bangladesh have improved in Test cricket, and the fact that we managed to come back and level the two-match series with the win at Colombo shows just that,” Mushfiqur explained.
Bangladesh suffered a 259-run defeat in the first Test at Galle. However, they fought tooth and nail in the next match and eventually came out in front by four wickets to register their ninth win in Test cricket. It was the first victory over Sri Lanka after 18 matches.
Mashrafe Mortaza, Tigers’ inspirational skipper who announced his retirement from T20Is earlier was given a perfect farewell with a 45-run victory over Sri Lanka in the second Twenty20 international in Colombo yesterday.
Mushfiqur was understandably poignant when talking about Mashrafe’s retirement and he said that he will miss his teammate immensely in T20 cricket in future.
