Bad weather halts Paturia-Daulatdia, Aricha-Kazirhat launch services

Launch services on the Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes remain suspended since this morning due to rough weather and strong currents at the Padma and Jamuna rivers.

The authorities suspended launch movement at 9:00am to avert any untoward incident, said Faridul Islam, assistant director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority's Aricha regional office. 

However, ferry operations on the Paturia-Daulatdia route are operating as usual, reports our Manikganj correspondent.

M Zillur Rahman, deputy manager of the Aricha office of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said a total of 17 ferries run on this route every day. Due to rough weather, the services have slowed, he added.
