Prison guard held over selling drugs inside jail

A jail guard was arrested yesterday for taking and selling drugs in Kashimpur High Security Central Prison.

Palash Hossain, 30, was arrested with one yaba pill and Tk 21,000 which he allegedly got from selling the pills in the prison, a jail source said.

Two other prison guards have fled following his arrest.

Md Mizanur Rahman, senior superintendent of Kashimpur jail in Gazipur, said three jail guards, including Palash, were suspended for drug related crimes in Shariatpur District Jail three months ago.

Palash was attached to Gazipur District Jail. As his movements were suspicious, he was under surveillance of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, Mizanur said. 

On Friday night, Palash secretly went to Kashimpur central jail along with jail guard Md Mojnu. They went to the residence of jail guard Rakib Hossain inside the jail and had yaba there and sold the drugs.

A team of the jail then raided the house and arrested Palash but the other managed to flee.

Palash was handed over to Joydevpur police yesterday afternoon.
