College student arrested over animal cruelty
A college girl was arrested from her Gopibagh house in the city last night after she allegedly killed a cat four days ago and video footage of the incident went viral on social media.
Her arrest came hours after animal welfare activists Zahid Hussain and Saurav Shamim filed a case under Cruelty to Animal Act, 1920 in this regard, said Pralay Kumar Saha, OC of Mugda Police Station.
Talking to The Daily Star, Zahid, secretary general of Care for Paws, said the girl killed the cat on March 17. A day later, another person known to the girl uploaded video footage of the killing on Facebook.
The accused told police that the cat was ill and she killed and dismembered the animal out of curiosity, the OC added.
