Barguna Killing: Rifat Farazi remanded for 7 days
A Barguna court yesterday placed Rifat Farazi, one of the key accused in Rifat Sharif murder case, on a fresh seven-day remand in an arms case.
Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate Sirajul Islam Gazi had passed the order after police produced Farazi before the court with a fresh remand plea.
The court also issued a five-day remand to Arian Shrabon, another accused in the murder who was arrested on Monday.
Police arrested Farazi in a case filed over the recovery of arms used in the murder July 2, hours after prime accused Sabbir Hossain Nayan alias Nayan Bond was shot dead in what police said was a gunfight.
Police recovered three sharp weapons, a pistol and three bullets from the spot.
Rifat was shown arrested in both the murder and the arms recovery cases, said Humayun Kabir, investigation officer (IO) of Rifat murder case.
Earlier on July 3, the same court issued a seven-day remand to Farazi in the Rifat murder case.
A total of six accused -- Oli, Tanvir, Chandon, Hasan, Sagor and Najmul -- have already given confessional statements about their involvement in Rifat’s murder, the IO confirmed.
On June 26, Nayan and Farazi, along with some others, attacked 25-year-old Rifat with sharp weapons in front of Barguna Government College when Rifat and his wife Ayesha were leaving the college premises.
He was first taken to Barguna General Hospital and later to Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital where he died around 3:30pm.
Rifat’s father Abdul Halim Dulal Sharif filed a case with Barguna Police Station on the same day accusing 12.
