Only around a month after rock band Rush’s R40 Tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of the band’s first album together and also of drummer, lyricist Neil Peart’s being in it, which was documented in a footage from the film R40 Live by Billboard on November 13, the drummer mentioned his retirement from his musical career.

Peart, the youngest person ever to have the honour of being introduced to the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1983, spoke about his retirement in an interview with Drumhead Magazine on December 7, reports Billboard.

“Lately Olivia has been introducing me to new friends at school as 'My dad -- He’s a retired drummer.' True to say -- funny to hear. And it does not pain me to realize that, like all athletes, there comes a time to… take yourself out of the game,” a fan site Rush Is A Band quoted Peart.

There had already been word that R40 Tour would be the final large-scale tour by Rush before they would call it quits due to Alex lifeson’s psoratic arthritis and Peart’s chronic tendonitis.

However, it is a question whether Peart just means taking himself out of touring or making studio albums as there has been no official statement given by the band on the matter yet.
