Farhan Akhtar originally wrote “DIl Chahta Hai” keeping in mind Hrithik as the leading character, Sidhharth.

After Hrithik turned down the role, it went to Abhishek Bachchan.

But Abhishek too turned down the offer. After Abhishek, the role went to Aamir and Farhan Akhtar swapped the roles of Akhay Khanna and Aamir Khan.

Farhan's directorial debut won him a National Film Award for Best Feature Film that year, and the film itself went on to achieve a cult status.
