The Daily Star recently reached out to the acclaimed actor to find out more about this exciting journey. She is currently in India shooting for a mehendi advertisement.
“Swapnajaal” is still going strong in Bangladesh theatres. How do you feel about all this?
Porimoni: I am incredibly excited; every week I hear news of the film screened in more theatres, and it feels as though the excitement of its release is never-ending, and I still can't get over it.
“Swapnajaal” is also a film very different from the other films you have been involved with. How has this impacted your fans and yourself?
Porimoni: The experience has been wonderful. Everywhere I go, people are full of praise for the film because I've never quite done such a character before. In fact, many even address me as Shubhra now! (Laughs) It makes me feel as though I have done justice to my character, and to the film, and as an artiste that's all that matters.
You are also a budding producer now. Could you elaborate on that?
Porimoni: My production house is called ‘Shonar Tori’ and our first film is Khoto, where I shall play the lead actor as well opposite Zayed Khan. We plan to start filming after the monsoon and most of its setting will be based in Sylhet.
What brought about this sudden shift in your career?
Porimoni: Oh no, I have been carefully planning and strategising for three and a half years now. ‘Shonar Tori’ is my brainchild, and I hope it will become an important proponent of the film industry soon.
