How are your preparations for the National Film Day?

We have a lot planned for today. We will start off with a rally, move on to a few seminars and decorate the BFDC premises with posters of classic Bangla movies. I hope we can celebrate the day with the cooperation of all members in the fraternity. However, I am a little skeptical with the frequent thundershowers, but I suppose it will not hamper our schedule.

How does it feel to have a day dedicated to films, not only as a convener, but also as an artiste?

This day is a matter of pride for all the various artistes involved with films. We are extremely grateful to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for announcing April 3 as the National Film Day. It is out of her sheer admiration for the art that we are able to celebrate this day.

What are your thoughts on Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC)?

On April 3, 1957, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman proposed the Pakistan Film Development Corporation Bill in the provincial legislature sessions, which was passed on the same day. Had it not been for his efforts, the film industry would not have been graced by the legendary likes of Razzak, Alamgir, Khan Ata and others. Without BFDC, there would be no great stories, actors, directors, cinematographers and technicians.

How has the National Film Day benefited the film community?

Slowly but surely, we are reaching greater heights. I am rather optimistic about further developments in the near future. The government increased the amount for the grants provided to produce films, which is a prime reason behind the success of this industry.
