Interview
tête-à-tête

I have always loved cricket: Maria

Model, TV host and actress Maria Nur signed up for a radio jockey in ABC Radio in 2009. Her journey never stopped there; today she is recognised for her lively presence and charismatic persona. In an interview with the Daily Star, she spoke about her experience of different formats of the entertainment media.

What are your latest assignments?

Maria: I am mostly busy with anchoring corporate shows; that takes up most of my time. Apart from that, I am hosting Rtv's “Late Night Coffee.” There's also the GTV drama series “Five Female Friends”, which is based on the career of women and their lives. And I am shooting for the third TVC for ekhanei.com.

What is the difference between being a radio jockey and a TV host?

Maria: As an RJ, you have entire control of the programme. You have to be very prompt and spontaneous. Everything is in your hands. The best part about being on radio is that you don't have to wear make-up every day (chuckles). As for being a TV host, I know that my appearance matters and there comes the hustle of make-up. I have to be prepared beforehand, when it comes to live telecasts. But when I go on radio, all I have to is go on the web or read something to bring something interesting to the listeners. Radio jockeying is probably a little more challenging.

You have hosted TV shows on cricket. How did that come about?

Maria: While I was hosting a travelling show, at the back of my mind I always wanted to host a cricket show. And when the opportunity came to me, I grabbed it instantly. I have always loved cricket and everyone in Bangladesh watches this sport. I never want to miss a chance of being a part of the cricket world.
