Biren Shome’s eleventh solo exhibition underway at Gallery Chitrak
A selection of 50 artworks by eminent artist Biren Shome is on display at Gallery Chitrak. His eleventh solo exhibition, Libaration War Bangabandhu Bangladesh, was inaugurated in the capital recently. The exhibition highlights some works from his series, Bangabandhu, Motherland and Liberation War and Devastation. Born in Jamalpur, Shome was a freedom fighter who worked as a designer in the Directorate of Press, Publicity, Information and Broadcasting at Mujibnagar during 1971.
During the inauguration, National Professor Dr Anisuzzaman was present as the chief guest. Advocate Nahid Mahtab was present as the guest of honour and renowned artist Monirul Islam was in attendance, along with other noted artists of the country. In addition to the exhibition, the second edition of Shome’s book, Bangladesher Shadhinota Songrame Shilpisomaj, was presented at the event.
In his statement for the exhibition, Shome explains that his paintings are a reflection of his horrific recollections of torture and destruction during the Liberation War of Bangladesh. Viewers can easily connect with his realistic and abstract paintings that brilliantly showcase the tragedies in the war. The exhibition will continue till November 26 from 10 am to 8 pm.
