Death anniversary of KANGAL HARINATH
Exponents and speakers urged to take befitting steps to disseminate the ideology of Kangal Harinath, the Bengali pioneer of rural journalism so that future generations can learn the way of dedication and the philosophy of struggle for the journalistic works.
They made the remarks on the occasion of 119th death anniversary of Kangal Harinath held at Kumarkhali Public Library premises. Earlier, a rally was organised from Kangal's ancestral homestead in Kundupara of the upazila.
Kushtia district and Kumarkhali upazila administration jointly organised the programme.
The speakers said Harinath himself witnessed the history at a close quarter but history remained fully oblivious of his ardent passion.
Harinath (1833-1896) was a dedicated soul of continuum of activities. He was a journalist, poet, singer, composer, teacher and reformer. Harinath began publishing “Grambarta Prokashika” in 1863, which set out as a monthly and finally
emerged as a leading weekly magazine.
He also wrote some 40 books.
