ABDUL AHAD RECALLED THROUGH HIS SONGS
Marking the death anniversary of noted composer, music director and singer Abdul Ahad, a programme was held at the Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum on May 12.
Mahmuda Khatun Siddiqua, Abdul Ahad and Hamida Khanom Smriti Parishad organised the programme to pay tribute to the late composer.
The event began with a memorial speech by Dr. Rafiqul Islam, who said, “I have countless memories with Abdul Ahad and feel that the new generation should know more about him. He composed numerous songs and those songs will live forever.”
Karunamoy Goswami said, “We should take the initiative to preserve his everlasting creations, amounting to no less than 4000 melodies which are a treasure trove for us.”
Noted actress Aleya Ferdousi anchored the programme and also recited poems of Tagore.
In the second phase of the programme, singers including Sujit Mustafa, Yasmin Mushtari and Jharna Rahman presented Abdul Ahad's songs such as “Tomar Kajol Kesh”, “Onek Brishti Jhorey Tumi Ele”, “Ami Sagorer Neel” and “Haater Kakon Felechhi Khule”.
Later, Tagore singer Rokaiya Hasina and Sajid Akbar rendered Tagore songs at the event. Noted singer Sumon Chowdhury also rendered songs at the event.
Members of Obbhudoy Sangeet Angan presented choral renditions of “Sonkocher Bihobolota” and “Amar Desher
Maatir Gondhe”.
The programme was presided over by Karunamoy Goswami.
