All senior citizens to be given old-age allowance by 2025: Social welfare minister

Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed today told parliament that the government has planned to gradually bring all senior citizens in the country under the old-age allowance programme by 2025.
"The government has a plan to provide allowance to all men aged 65 or above and all women aged 62 or above by 2025…in phases," he said, replying to a written question from Awami League MP Mir Mushtaque Ahmed Robi from Satkhira-2.
The minister said the number of beneficiaries under the old-age allowance programme has been increasing by 10 percent every year since the current government came to power.
Some 44 lakh people are being provided with old-age allowance across the country in the fiscal 2019-2020, said Nuruzzaman Ahmed.
