Bluesky surpasses 20 million users

Bluesky, a growing social media platform launched by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, has surpassed 20 million users.
While Bluesky's user base remains small compared to X (formerly Twitter) or Meta's Instagram Threads, its trajectory suggests growing momentum.

Threads, which recently reported over 275 million monthly active users, currently holds a lead over Bluesky in daily active users. According to Similarweb, a market intelligence firm, Threads active users from Bluesky reduced from five times more users to just 1.5 times as of mid-November. While in the U.S. and U.K., Bluesky has overtaken Threads in daily website visits. Bluesky's mobile app usage in the U.S. surged by 519% since the start of November, with the U.K. experiencing a 352% increase.
On November 13, Bluesky became the top-ranked app in the U.S. App Store, outpacing Threads (ranked No. 4) and X (No. 41), according to Appfigures, an app data provider. Globally, Bluesky's Android app usage is up more than 360% this year, though this was partly fuelled by temporary spikes during X's ban in Brazil.
