bKash and Huawei receives award at MWC Barcelona 2025

bKash and Huawei have been awarded the GSMA GLOMO 'Best FinTech Innovation' Award at MWC Barcelona 2025 for their digital loan solution, 'Pay Later', which provides short-term microloans to unbanked users in Bangladesh.
According to MWC organisers, the award recognises groundbreaking advancements in financial technology that enhance financial inclusion and transform how people and businesses manage, access, and utilise financial services.
According to a press release, bKash has expanded financial access to 61% of Bangladeshi adults. However, 37% still rely on high-interest informal lenders, and only 9% have access to formal banking services. To address this, Huawei partnered with bKash to introduce the 'Pay Later' service, enabling instant, paperless microloans that provide financial support to unbanked populations, including rural women and small businesses.
During a partner interview at MWC Barcelona 2025, Mohammad Azmal Huda, Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO) at bKash said, "Since 2017, we migrated to the Huawei platform and since then a lot of things we have co-created. And a lot of things are dependending on the local dynamics of the market and bKash is actually collecting all the demands of the market and they are trying to be innovative. And together, with Huawei we are trying to pull out the right level of solution both in terms of hardware and application."

According to a press release, Huawei claims that its Mobile Money solution has benefited 480 million users across 40 countries, and it operates on a cloud-native distributed architecture, ensuring 99.999% platform reliability and unlimited scalability. The system is powered by AI-driven financial risk assessment, enabling seamless digital transactions and fostering financial inclusion on a global scale.
MWC Barcelona 2025 is taking place from March 3 to March 6, 2025, in Barcelona, Spain, where Huawei is showcasing its latest products and solutions.
