Amazon releases first image from live-action God of War series
Amazon has shared a first-look of its live-action adaptation of the PlayStation franchise God of War, with filming under way in Vancouver and a two-season order already in place.
The image shows Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as his son, Atreus. The show is expected to draw from the narrative of the two most recent God of War games, in which Kratos navigates fatherhood while confronting figures from Norse mythology.
The series logline describes Kratos and Atreus setting out to spread the ashes of Kratos’s wife, Faye, and Atreus’s mother. It adds that Kratos attempts to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.
The wider cast includes Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as the brothers Brok and Sindri, and Ed Skrein as Baldur.
Ronald D Moore is attached as writer, executive producer and showrunner through Tall Ship Productions. Frederick E O Toye will direct the first two episodes.
The project is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
