Amazon to cut 14,000 corporate jobs
Amazon has announced it will eliminate approximately 14,000 corporate positions as part of an ongoing effort to "reduce bureaucracy" and streamline operations. The cuts were confirmed in an official blog post by Beth Galetti, Amazon's Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology.
According to the announcement, the reduction represents a continuation of company initiatives to operate more efficiently by removing organisational layers and shifting resources toward strategic priorities. Affected employees will have approximately 90 days to seek new roles within Amazon, with recruiting teams prioritising internal candidates. Those unable to find new positions will receive severance packages and transition support.
The company stated that despite strong business performance, it aims to adopt a leaner organisational structure to respond more quickly to market changes, particularly in the context of rapid AI development. Amazon indicated it expects to continue hiring in strategic areas throughout 2026 while pursuing further operational efficiencies.
