The opener of a two-Test series begins on Friday at Kolkata's Eden Gardens with the tourists arriving there fresh from a 1-1 draw in Pakistan.
South Africa posted their highest total in World Cup history.
Pakistan lost their last six wickets for 17 runs.
After copping a heavy World Cup defeat against England, the Proteas have beaten New Zealand and now India, in what was one of the most compelling matches of the tournament so far.

Victory allowed the Proteas to avenge a shock T20 loss to the same opponents last weekend.
