Bangladesh vs Afghanistan

Bangladesh’s ODI crisis explained; Can Tigers still gain direct qualification to the World Cup?

Watch our full analysis on the latest episode of Pitch Perfect as we look back at how Bangladesh found solid footing in ODIs -- and why that fire seems to be fading now.

'If we don’t score in ODIs, we can’t survive'

For once, Mehidy Hasan Miraz dropped the clichés. There was no talk of “learning experiences” or “positives to take.” Instead, the Bangladesh ODI captain sounded visibly exasperated as he laid bare the team’s batting frailties after yet another collapse saw them slump to an 81-run defeat -- and a 2-0 series loss -- against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Miraz rues missing 40 runs as batting woes haunt Tigers again

Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz admitted his side were at least 40 runs short after yet another underwhelming batting display led to a five-wicket defeat in the first ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

Saif the improved one

Bangladesh batter Saif Hassan has done what many of his peers could not. He stepped away from the national fold, returned stronger, and finally proved himself ready for the demands of international cricket.

Saif earns maiden ODI call-up

In-form batter Saif Hassan earned a maiden call-up to the ODI side, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 16-member squad for the Tigers' upcoming three-match series against Afghanistan on Friday.

Tigers hope to go level with Afghans

Just days after beating Afghanistan in a crucial Asia Cup game and pushing them to the brink of elimination in the process, the Jaker Ali-led Bangladesh will be taking on Rashid Khan and Co in a three-match T20I series in Sharjah from today.

Lack of effective solutions laid bare again

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the squad for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan, starting on October 2, with Soumya Sarkar replacing the injured captain Litton Das for the series. However, the persistent problem of a fragile middle order, as exposed in the Super Four match against Pakistan during the Asia Cup, remains a cause for concern in the lead-up to next year’s T20 World Cup.

BCB president provides his match analysis on Afghanistan game

Previous BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon had often come under scrutiny for indulging media questions regarding analysis of a match. While Nazmul is not there anymore as BCB boss, the media contingent has not lost their touch. Current BCB president Aminul Islam, who has more expertise given his work in coaching, had to provide an analysis of Bangladesh’s win over Afghanistan.

Fizz shows venom with the new ball

Mustafizur Rahman pointed to the sky knowingly, a smile spread across his face. The delivery to Rahmat Shah, only his second of the first ODI against Afghanistan, got him a wicket. But it was the satisfaction in execution of his plan that brought assuredness for Bangladesh’s ‘cuttermaster’, who managed his first four-for in ODIs yesterday in over a year’s time.
