BCB president provides his match analysis on Afghanistan game
Previous Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon had often come under scrutiny for indulging media questions regarding analysis of a match. While Nazmul is not there anymore as BCB boss, the media contingent has not lost their touch. Current BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul, who has more expertise given his role as a former Bangladesh captain and extensive work in coaching, had to provide an analysis of Bangladesh's win over Afghanistan.
"Bangladesh bounced back very nicely and strongly. After winning against Hong Kong, in the next match we saw how one can lose by playing badly for 15 minutes or 30 minutes. We saw some tactical changes [yesterday], although we are not involved and it's usually done by team management. The tactical involvement and plans worked beautifully and the team has done well by playing good cricket," Bulbul told reporters today.
The BCB president picked leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, who picked up two wickets for 18 runs, as the game changer in the Afghanistan game.
"Of course Tanzid [Tamim] batted really well and Taskin [Ahmed] and Nasum [Ahmed] bowled really well too. But in the match, the biggest factor was Rishad. The tactical things we saw from him, such as bowling slower and wicket-to-wicket; even though it was four overs, he seemed different," he said.
The BCB president also said that the move of picking four specialist bowlers appeared risky.
"From the outside, it seemed risky and I don't know what the team management's thoughts were but, at the end of the day, we won," he said.
Nasum was the star of the show with a wicket in the first delivery of the Afghanistan innings and ended with two wickets for just 11 runs. Nasum, who recently faced controversy regarding a private matter, kept his focused and utilised the opportunity of getting into the playing eleven.
"First of all, Nasum has my sympathies. When a player represents a team or the country in a tournament, he needs mental support. Overcoming his situation, the way he played his cricket is unbelievable," the BCB president said.
