Title sponsor still missing as BPL gears up for 12th edition

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) remains without a title sponsor, with no official announcement made a day before the start of the tournament.

There were fresh developments on Thursday as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was forced to take over the Chattogram Royals franchise after the franchise sent a letter to the board stating that they had "failed to get sponsors."

Title sponsors are usually announced well ahead of the tournament, but this time there has been no official press release confirming a sponsor.

"We have not been informed who the title sponsors are. Maybe it will happen by tomorrow," BPL member secretary Iftekhar Rahman said.

A BCB director added that Matra is working on BPL event management and will arrange the title sponsorship event after securing sponsors.

Last season, the tournament was sponsored by Dutch-Bangla Bank.

Captains announced

Meanwhile, three franchises announced their captains a day ahead of the 12th edition of the BPL.

As expected, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was named captain of Sylhet Titans, while Noakhali Express appointed Shykat Ali as their skipper. Rangpur will be led by Nurul Hasan Sohan, the franchise said in a press release. Rajshahi Warriors had earlier announced Najmul Hossain Shanto as captain, while Dhaka Capitals will be led by Mohammad Mithun.

Sylhet, apart from naming their captain, also informed on Thursday that they have paid 15 days of daily allowance and 25 percent of payments in line with the guidelines.
