NSC tells ad-hoc committees to take initiative for polls

The National Sports Council (NSC) on Thursday issued letters to the ad-hoc committees of 49 sports federations and associations in the country to "immediately" take initiatives to hold elections in their respective bodies.

"All ad-hoc committees have been requested to take initiatives to hold their respective elections immediately," read an NSC circular signed by director (Sports) Mohammad Aminul Ehsan.

After the fall of the Awami League government in the face of a mass uprising on August 5, 2025, the Ministry of Youth and Sports dissolved all elected committees of district and divisional sports associations on August 21, 2024.

The NSC then removed the heads of all national sports bodies and gradually formed ad-hoc committees, the latest of which was formed for the Bangladesh Women's Sports Association on last Saturday.

A good number of councillors, who vote in the federation and association elections, are from the district and divisional sports associations which are being run by the ad-hoc committees. However, there is no instruction from the NSC for districts and divisions to hold their elections.

Of the total 52 sports federations and associations, Bangladesh Cricket Board and Bangladesh Football Federation, both have held elections, and International Teakwondo Federation, were exempted of this circulation, stated the NSC statement.
