BRAC Bank’s Tk 99 lakh boost for women’s hockey

BRAC Bank has announced a Tk 99 lakh sponsorship for the Brac Bank Oporajeyo Alo Women's Hockey Tournament, boosting Bangladesh's rapidly growing women's hockey scene.

The tournament, beginning next month, will feature 18 district teams competing across four zones -- Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Cumilla, and Jashore. Zonal champions will join BKSP in the final round scheduled for December in Dhaka.

This marks BRAC Bank's second major collaboration with the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF), following an earlier women's development tournament.

At a press briefing yesterday, Ekram Kabir, the bank's chief communication officer, said the initiative aligns with their CSR commitment to empower women in sports. The bank also plans to extend its support through 2026–27 and may offer player stipends in the future.

BHF General Secretary Reazul Hasan expressed gratitude, noting that all players will receive kits, gear, and essentials. He added that BHF will cover transport, accommodation, and food for all teams and is seeking inclusion of women's hockey in the Asian Games qualifiers, signaling a promising future for the sport.
