Tanvir shines in Barishal’s 2nd NCL win

Skipper Tanvir Islam picked up seven wickets in the second innings to help Barishal division secure a six-wicket win over Dhaka division on the final day of their fifth-round National Cricket League (NCL) match in Cox's Bazar on Tuesday.

Tanvir returned figures of 7-64 -- his eighth first-class five-wicket haul -- and claimed all five remaining wickets of Dhaka's innings on the final day. Dhaka were eventually bowled out for 169 in their second innings after resuming on 124 for five.

Chasing a target of 102, Ifakhar Hossain Ifti guided Barishal home with an unbeaten 57 off 77 balls as they reached 107 for four to seal their second win of the competition.

Meanwhile, Dhaka remained bottom of the points table after suffering their first loss of the campaign.

Meanwhile, the other four-day match between Khulna division and Mymensingh division ended in a stalemate in Khulna.

Resuming on overnight score of 387 for seven, Mymensingh declared at 459 for eight to take a 72-run lead, courtesy of an unbeaten 102 off 191 balls from Al Amin Jnr and a solid 81 off 146 balls by Arif Ahmed.

Khulna then reached 140 for five, with Soumya Sarkar making 44 and Afif Hossain remaining unbeaten on 38, before both teams agreed to settle for a draw.

The result marked Mymensingh's fourth draw in five matches, while Khulna climbed to second place.
