Salahuddin shifts focus to HP as Tigers stint ends
Mohammad Salahuddin is set to begin a new chapter within Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), with the veteran coach poised to take charge of the board’s High Performance (HP) unit following the conclusion of his tenure as Bangladesh senior assistant coach after the Tigers’ 2-0 home Test series sweep over Pakistan on Wednesday.
Cricket Operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees confirmed the development to The Daily Star. Salahuddin is expected to begin his new role as HP head coach in June.
BCB sources had earlier informed that Salahuddin would lead a revamped HP programme as part of a restructuring process within Bangladesh cricket’s development pathway.
Salahuddin had originally been appointed as senior assistant coach in November 2024 on a short-term deal until the ICC Champions Trophy in March 2025. However, after impressing the board during Bangladesh’s tour of the West Indies and subsequent assignments, his contract was extended until the 2027 ICC World Cup.
In November last year, BCB confirmed that Salahuddin had submitted his resignation and was due to leave after the home series against Ireland amid criticism surrounding Bangladesh’s batting performances. However, the experienced local coach later reversed that decision and continued with the national setup.
Salahuddin previously worked as Bangladesh’s assistant and fielding coach from 2006 to 2010 and also served at the BCB National Cricket Academy. He later coached Singapore and remains one of the country’s most decorated domestic coaches, having won multiple Bangladesh Premier League and Dhaka Premier League titles.
