Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto, who was elected as a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director from the Rajshahi Division, tendered his resignation on Sunday, a day after the BCB elections were held on June 7.

Simanto was one of seven candidates elected unopposed from Category 1 in the BCB elections.

The resignation was not unexpected, as Simanto had previously informed the media of his intention to step down from the board for personal reasons.

BCB Chief Election Commissioner Ahsanul Karim had earlier told The Daily Star that, under the board's bylaws, Simanto was required to remain in the election process because he did not withdraw his candidacy before the May 25 deadline.

As the election process had already been completed, his resignation became valid following the polls and has now been formally submitted.

"He had already notified that he was going to resign, and it was reported in the media as well. Since the election process had already started, he had to continue due to the election timeline. Now that the first meeting of the new board has been held, he has submitted his resignation," a top BCB official told The Daily Star on Sunday.

According to the BCB constitution, the board will now have to hold an election to fill the vacant directorship post.
