Nasir blames old selection panel for 'ruining' career

All-rounder Nasir Hossain took part in his first domestic cricket match today in Mirpur after serving an ICC ban for breaching the Anti-Corruption Code in Mirpur and the 33-year-old said that he is still dreaming of making a comeback into the Bangladesh team while pointing fingers at the previous selection panel.
Nasir is playing for Rupganj Tigers in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL) and in his first appearance since the ban, he picked up a wicket for 31 runs in 10 overs and scored nine runs in Rupganj's eight-wicket win over Gazi Group.
"It's a good feeling. I was missing playing cricket, so obviously it's a very good feeling to play after a while," Nasir told reporters at Mirpur today.
The all-rounder had been handed a two-year ban back in September 2023, with six months suspended. On his return, he felt he can still come back into the national team. His last game for Bangladesh was during the tri-nation series between Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in 2018.
"I think those who play cricket do so to play for the national team. I have that dream too. I believe there is still an opportunity. If I can perform, I will be able to play for the national team," Nasir said.
Without naming anyone, Nasir blamed the previous selection panel led by Minhajul Abedin Nannu for not selecting him for understudy teams even after performing and putting his international career on hold.
"Earlier, even when I played well in the BPL, I wasn't called up to the A side or the Bangladesh Tigers or for practice matches. When you perform and aren't called up from these places, how can you play for the national team. I believe that if I can perform, opportunities will come," he said.
"You will see that in other countries, the selection panel changes every two years. Let's say I am a selector, I won't see everyone or rate everyone the same way. It's normal. When it changes after two years, the new selectors may see something good in the players who were ignored before. If you are there for nine to ten years in the same position, those you don't like, their careers would be ruined. I feel that that is what happened in my case," Nasir said.
