Naqvi wants India team to collect Asia Cup trophy from him

The ongoing impasse over the Asia Cup trophy -- which India declined to collect during last month's closing ceremony due to heightened tensions with Pakistan -- remains unresolved.
According to Indian media reports citing sources, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reached out to Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi to arrange for the handover of the trophy.
Naqvi, who also serves as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), told reporters in Karachi on Tuesday that the ACC has informed the BCCI that a formal trophy presentation will take place in Dubai on November 10, offering an official occasion for India to receive the trophy.
Naqvi, in his capacity as ACC head, is believed to be particularly keen on personally handing over the trophy following the dramatic and awkward scenes that unfolded after the Asia Cup final between India and Pakistan last month.
India, the defending champions, narrowly defeated Pakistan by five wickets in a thrilling last-over finish at the Dubai International Stadium to secure the Asia Cup title. However, the post-match closing ceremony took a controversial turn as the Indian team refused to accept the winners' trophy from Naqvi -- a move widely seen as a reflection of the political strain between the two nations.
Just days after the match, Naqvi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) with a pointed message:
"If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me."
On Tuesday, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported that the cricket boards of Afghanistan and Sri Lanka have supported the BCCI's formal communication to Naqvi requesting that the trophy be handed over to India.
A senior ACC official told PTI that Naqvi remains adamant that a BCCI representative must collect the trophy directly from him at the ACC's Dubai headquarters. However, the Indian board has rejected this condition.
"The BCCI will raise this issue during the next ICC meeting," PTI quoted the source as saying.
According to the same ACC source, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, India's ACC representative Rajeev Shukla, and officials from Sri Lanka Cricket and Afghanistan Cricket Board collectively wrote to Naqvi last week, urging him to resolve the matter and arrange for the trophy handover.
