Hridoy ton keeps Mohammedan on top
Six centuries and two five-wicket hauls headlined five completed matches in the eighth round of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) 2025-26 across five venues on Tuesday.
The standout hundred came at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, where skipper Tawhid Hridoy struck 101 off 106 balls to lead Mohammedan Sporting Club to a commanding 107-run victory over Legends of Rupganj. The win helped Mohammedan consolidate their position at the top of the table.
Besides Hridoy, Prime Bank Cricket Club's Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Shahadat Hossain Dipu, Abahani Limited's Mahidul Islam Ankon, Agrani Bank's Mahfizul Islam Robin and City Club's Abdullah Al Mamun also registered tons. Mamun, however, was the only centurion to finish on the losing side.
Mohammedan vs Legends of Rupganj
After three fifty-plus scores earlier this season, Hridoy finally converted one into a century. Anamul Haque Bijoy and Afif Hossain chipped in with 71 and 70 respectively as Mohammedan posted 339 for five in 50 overs after being sent in to bat. Yasir Ali provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 33 off just 14 balls.
Rupganj's chase began in explosive fashion through Habibur Rahman Sohan, who blasted a 15-ball fifty -- the joint-fastest by a Bangladesh batter in List A cricket, alongside Parvez Hossain Emon. Sohan's 59 off 27 balls included six fours and five sixes, but his dismissal triggered a collapse.
Nasum Ahmed's 45 off 40 balls only reduced the margin of defeat as Nahid Rana bounced back from an expensive start to claim 4-71. Rupganj were eventually bowled out for 232 in 34 overs.
The win took Mohammedan to 14 points from eight matches, while Rupganj slumped to their third defeat of the season.
Abahani vs Gulshan Cricket Club
At BKSP-4, Ankon's unbeaten 102 off 95 balls guided Abahani Limited to 315 for five after they elected to bat first.
Gulshan never looked capable of mounting a challenge and were dismissed for 142, handing Abahani a crushing 173-run victory. The win, their sixth in a row, kept them second on the table with 12 points from eight matches.
Dhaka Leopards vs Gazi Group Cricketers
The most dramatic contest of the day unfolded at the Bashundhara Sports Complex.
Off-spinner Md Rubel starred with 6-23 as Gazi Group bowled out Dhaka Leopards for 153 in 35.3 overs. Leopards appeared firmly in control at 85 without loss before suffering a dramatic collapse.
Gazi Group seemed set for a comfortable chase after Shovon Moroll's 63 off 56 balls lifted them to 121 for three. However, off-spinner Moin Khan (5-34) and left-arm spinner Hasan Murad (3-44) sparked a stunning fightback, reducing them to 137 for nine.
Leon Islam (14 not out) and Aridul Islam (3 not out) then held their nerve to secure a thrilling one-wicket win, lifting Gazi Group to sixth place with eight points.
Agrani Bank vs City Club
At BKSP-3, Mamun smashed 151 off 145 balls, hitting 12 fours and 12 sixes, to propel City Club to 326 for six after being sent in to bat.
Agrani Bank responded strongly through Robin's 147 off 141 balls and Shadman Islam's 78 off 67 deliveries, chasing down the target with two balls to spare to register their fourth win in eight matches.
Prime Bank vs Brothers Union
Prime Bank racked up 369 for five after being asked to bat first, thanks to centuries from Tanzid and Shahadat.
Tanzid hammered 119 off 93 balls, while Shahadat struck 105 off 111 deliveries. Shamim Hossain added late impetus with a 31-ball 51 featuring six sixes.
Brothers Union were struggling at 86 for five in 21 overs, with Aliss Al Islam claiming three wickets, when rain interrupted play. As the match could not resume, Prime Bank were awarded a 155-run victory under the Duckworth-Lewis method.
Meanwhile, the match between Bashundhara Strikers and Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club at the Cricketers Academy was pushed to the reserve day after wet outfield conditions prevented any play.
