BCB can’t take responsibility of Afridi’s payment: Faruque

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed said the board can't take responsibility for the alleged non-payment of Pakistan legend Shahid Afridi.
Speaking to a few reporters, including The Daily Star's Samsul Arefin Khan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore during the second semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy between New Zealand and South Africa, Faruque said he could not ensure the payment of Afridi -- who came on as a brand ambassador for Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) side Chittagong Kings – as the board made contracts with franchises and players only.
"The board doesn't have a three-party deal. We made contracts with the franchises and players. Now it's totally the franchise's matter who they are bringing as a brand ambassador. But it's also true that when a renowned player like Shahid Afridi comments like this about a franchise, the blame comes on the entire nation," Faruque told reporters on Wednesday when he attended the second semifinal of the Champions Trophy on the invitations of Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Bdnews24, a local news outlet, reported on Sunday that Afridi had received just USD 19,000 out of the USD 100,000 he was contracted to receive. According to the report, he was supposed to get USD 50,000 upon his arrival in Bangladesh. It also claimed that Afridi had sent a letter to the BCB boss to look into it. Later in the day,
Faruque also confirmed to The Daily Star that he had received such a letter from Afridi.
Chittagong Kings and team owner Sameer Quader Chowdhury were marred by controversies relating to the non-payment of players during BPL 11 which concluded in February.
The BCB can guarantee the payments of players picked from the BPL draft but can't do the same with direct signings.
