Bangladesh receive direct quarterfinal berth at Asian Games cricket

Bangladesh have secured a direct place in the knockout stage of the men's cricket event at the 2026 Asian Games, which will be held in Nagoya, Japan, in September.

The draw for the men's and women's cricket competitions was conducted on Thursday, with Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka earning automatic quarterfinal berths based on the ICC men's T20I rankings.

The men's event will feature 10 teams. Six teams will compete in the first round for the remaining four quarterfinal places.

Afghanistan, Japan and Nepal have been drawn in Group A, while Hong Kong, Malaysia and Oman will contest Group B. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will join Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The men's T20 tournament will be held from September 24 to October 1.

 

 

In the women's competition, eight teams will compete, with the tournament beginning directly from the quarterfinal stage. 

Bangladesh will face China, while India take on Japan, Sri Lanka meet Malaysia and Pakistan play Thailand.
The women's T20 event is scheduled for September 17-22.
