Sloppy England let Bangladesh slip away

Careless, callous and clumsy when under the pump…the lackadaisical performance from England allowed Bangladesh to extend their lead and pull away from the visitors in the second and final Test match of the series at Dhaka today.

English leggie Adil Rashid struck in the last over before the break to dismiss Sabbir Rahman and expose the tail, after Bangladesh had added 116 in the morning session.

Bangladesh were already 128 runs ahead when play resumed on day-3. England bowlers managed to create chances from the onset, but didn't have the rub of the green on their side.

Imrul Kayes was the first wicket to fall on Sunday. He departed for 78 but not before being dropped twice in the slips, on 66 by Alastair Cook off Zafar Ansari and on 74 by Joe Root off Moeen Ali.

Shakib survived in the 37th over when the forward short leg fielder failed to gather the ball after cushioning it on his chest. In the next over, the Bangladesh allrounder was fortunate as England didn't go for a review after they appealed for lbw.

The visitors proved unable to grasp their opportunities, with Jonny Bairstow missing a simple stumping chance off Ansari when Shakib Al Hasan was on 16. Ansari was denied again by Ben Duckett, who dropped a simple catch at deep midwicket to give Shakib a second lease of life on 23.

Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim also had his share of luck when he was dropped by Steven Finn off Ansari on six.

England will hope to make quick work of the tailenders so they can chase a manageable target as they try to maintain their perfect record against Bangladesh in Test match cricket.
